Gourd Musical Instruments
Tamboura
Nearly all stringed instruments as we know them, originated in one form or other as ancient gut strung gourd instruments which evolved in Eurasia and Africa. The Tamboura (one of many lute forms) is one such instrument, Tony's interpretation inspired by those early samples which would have used a gourd soundbox. "Tamboura" uses a Ghana Bottle gourd, sheoak neck and spruce soundboard, birds- eye ironbark (fretless) fingerboard, bridge and tail block, ebonised jarrah friction tuner pegs.

The naturally beautiful form of this Inca Giant Gourd, reminiscent of venus forms, inspired the figurative motif painted in gouache and finished in non-toxic acrylic.
