Tony Davis's foray into the art world began with a successful solo painting exhibition at the Desborough Gallery back in 1973. Since then he has had five more solo shows and appeared in many mixed exhibitions, as he continues to strive for excellence on a personal level, working with the fluid medium of painting in oils and acrylics. Describing himself as a figurative painter, his works consistently evoke a strong sense of purpose, a flowing lyricism that is not always self evident, and often his images are challenging in their ambiguity. His work is based on personal experience, chance encounters, relationships and a keen desire to connect lifestyle, heritage, landscape and environment. Not surprisingly, he has settled with his artist wife, Merle, living and working on the banks of the Blackwood River in a magnificent stone Federation homestead in a garden setting surrounded by bush and resplendent with bird life.
